Saint Art Studies

Beautiful paintings can bring the world of the saints to life in the eyes of your children! These saint art studies feature collections of lovely sacred art through the ages. We’ve also included some contemporary art works.

How to Incorporate a Saint Art Study into Your Homeschool

  • Spend some time looking at paintings, sculptures, stained glass, and photographs of the Saint. What do you like about the work of art?

  • Look for symbols that represent the Saints, their virtues and devotions, and key events in their lives. Do you see symbols repeated across several works of art of the Saint?

  •  What words would you use to describe the painting? Do you see specific shapes, colors, and lines that contribute to the overall feel of the work?

  • Research the artist who painted or created the work of art. Did the artist paint other Saints?

  • What is something you can find in each image that is different from the other images? What makes a particular image special and memorable?

  • Be inspired by this artwork to make your own sketches of the Saint. Can you draw or sketch the Saint in one of the styles you see? Can you then create your own style?

“As in a worthy book, we leave the author to tell his own tale, so do we trust a picture to tell its tale through the medium the artist gave it.” ~ Charlotte Mason
