How to Homeschool in Oklahoma
It’s easy to homeschool in Oklahoma! There are minimal requirements to comply with and you can follow your own guidelines (and heart) doing what works best for your family.
How do you homeschool in Oklahoma? Simple! Just send a letter of intent to homeschool to your local school and then teach your children at least 180 days a year. That’s it!
While there aren’t strict requirements imposed on homeschooling parents, the Oklahoma Department of Education (and advice resulting from court cases) recommend that you provide instruction equivalent to the education provided by the state. This include math, language arts, science, and social studies. In Oklahoma, the compulsory school ages are 5-18.

HSLDA is the nation’s largest homeschool advocacy organization. They protect the rights of homeschoolers in court, advocate for homeschool freedom in state legislatures, and work to advance homeschooling in the public arena.
Homeschool Oklahoma (HSOK)
Homeschool Oklahoma is Oklahoma’s Christian statewide homeschool organization. They work to promote home education in the state of Oklahoma, offering events, support, communication, and resources to homeschooling parents. Volunteers in the group monitor legislative activity in the state and inform concerned parents about legislation that could affect homeschoolers.
HERO of Oklahoma
Home Educators Resource Organization (HERO) of Oklahoma is a network of support groups and families dedicated to homeschooling their children. They offer a legislative email list with updates on legislation that is being considered or has passed by Congress and/or the Oklahoma Legislature that could affect homeschooling families.

CHE is a support group of Catholic homeschool families in the Diocese of Tulsa. They offer families a Catholic homeschool community to encourage friendship and support through educational opportunities and social activities. Members participate in a graduation ceremony, All Saints party, Homeschool Blessing Mass, speaker events, moms’ nights out, game nights, and service opportunities.

Great Books Program for High School Homeschoolers
Tulsa, OK
The Great Books Program for High School Homeschoolers is a supplemental program which introduces students to the Classics of Western Civilization in Literature, History (Secular and Ecclesial), Philosophy, Theology, Latin, and Music Theory for the Tulsa and surrounding areas. They offer a four-year program with a Greek Year, Roman Year, Medieval Year, and Modern Year. Catholic Schoolhouse is a supplemental program designed to help homeschool families enrich their educational experience through a flexible approach to learning inspired by classical elements, presented in a structured environment. Grammar students study the same topics at all ages creating family unity. The whole family has a place at Catholic Schoolhouse. Older students in the dialectic and rhetoric stage meet for discussion and activities that are best done in a group setting–all focusing on helping them become effective Catholic adults.

Public School Access for Homeschoolers in Oklahoma
In Oklahoma, there is no access for homeschooled students to public school sports. Court case decisions have ruled against homeschooled students seeking to participate in public school sports programs. The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) requires student athletes to attend the public school they represent.
