How to Homeschool in Mississippi

It’s easy to homeschool in Mississippi! Homeschools are called home study programs in Mississippi. Follow these steps to comply with the home education laws in the state:

1. File an annual certificate of enrollment with contact information and a simple description of the type of education your child will receive. 

2. Choose the subjects you want to teach in your homeschool. It is up to you, as there are no required subjects.

There are also no minimum number of attendance days, teacher requirements, or testing mandates.

Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA)
HSLDA is the nation’s largest homeschool advocacy organization. They protect the rights of homeschoolers in court, advocate for homeschool freedom in state legislatures, and work to advance homeschooling in the public arena. 

Mississippi Home Educators Association (MHEA)
MHEA monitors legislation, offers resources and events, and promotes affiliated homeschool support groups.

This is a Catholic homeschooling group serving home educating families in the area. They gather monthly during the school year to learn about the Catholic faith and participate in celebrations of feast days and liturgical seasons.

This is a Catholic homeschool community and weekly Catholic science and art enrichment club for PK3-3rd grade in the greater Biloxi-Ocean Spring area. It serves as a ministry for the Coast’s Catholic homeschool families. Classically Catholic Memory is a memory work program that is both Catholic and classical in nature. It is designed for children ages 5 through 12, and each year of the program provides 18 weeks of memory work in each subject. CCM is run as a co-op model.

Mississippi does not have a law granting homeschooled students the right to participate in public school classes and activities; thus, the individual schools and schools districts have the authority to decide whether to allow homeschooler participation. Policies often vary from district to district. Students wishing to participate in public school classes or activities should contact their local school for information regarding their district’s policy.
