Catholic Homeschooling in Ohio

How to Homeschool in Ohio

In Ohio, there are two ways to comply with the state’s homeschool regulations:

Option 1: Homeschool under Ohio’s homeschool statute
File an annual notification, teach the required subjects and number of hours, and test annually.

Option 2: Form an -08 school and homeschool as a non-chartered, non-tax-supported school
Certain requirements must be met to operate under this section of the Ohio Administrative Code.

Compulsory school ages are 6-18. There are no immunization requirements in Ohio.

Ohio Department of Education Home School Information
In Ohio, parents interested in educating their children at home may do so by notifying their local school district superintendents and meeting the requirements of Ohio law to home school. If requirements are met, the district superintendent releases the student from required compulsory school attendance. Parents or guardians who decide to home educate their students are completely responsible for choosing the curriculum and course of study. They select the curriculum and educational materials and take responsibility for educating their children. There is no state financial assistance for families who choose this option.
