If you haven’t used podcast listening in your home learning environment, now is the time to start! A survey conducted by Kids Listen, a grassroots organization of advocates for high-quality audio content for children, revealed these interesting statistics:

  • 80% of kids listen to a podcast more than once
  • 74% of respondents shared that their children initiate discussion based on the podcast they listened to
  • 70% of respondents reported that they sought out podcasts for kids as an alternative to screen time

The Classics for Kids podcast introduces children to classical music in a fun and entertaining way. The short episodes feature different composers and often take several episodes to study specific pieces or aspects of a composer’s work. 

Catholic History Trek is a podcast that explores the history of the Catholic Church, especially the historical background of contemporary Catholic practices and issues. While not specifically a child’s podcast, it is a great way to introduce your Catholic teens to some interesting stories about the Catholic faith. 

But Why? is a show led by kids asking the questions and sorting through the answers. It’s a big interesting world out there. On But Why, you’ll hear discussions of topics large and small, about nature, words, even the end of the world. 

Created and produced by parents of young children, WBUR’s Circle Round podcast  adapts folktales from around the world into sound- and music-rich radio plays for kids ages 3 to 103. Each episode explores universal themes like friendship, persistence, creativity and generosity, and ends with an activity that inspires a deeper conversation between children and grown-ups.

Tumble is a science podcast for kids, to be enjoyed by the entire family. We tell stories about science discoveries, with the help of scientists!  Join Lindsay and Marshall as they ask questions, share mysteries, and share what science is all about.

The Poem of the Day podcast is a collection of audio recordings of classic and contemporary poems read by poets and actors, delivered every day. This podcast is presented by the Poetry Foundation.

Square Notes: The Sacred Music Podcast is hosted by Dr. Jennifer Donelson-Nowicka. Learn more about the Catholic Church’s teachings and treasury of sacred music. Topics range from discussion of Church documents on sacred music, to the music of certain composers or eras, Gregorian chant, the role of music in Catholic education, and techniques for directing a better choir rehearsal. 

YourClassical Kids Storytime from American Public Media offers classic stories with a classical twist. Each episode features storytellers recounting childhood favorites along with related classical music.

Eat Your Spanish is an interactive Spanish learning podcast for kids and families. It was created by Evan and Vanessa to share their deep love of music and the Spanish language with children everywhere. Their goal is to provide a constant source of warmth and comfort for all who listen and to make sure the Spanish content feels fun and easy to learn.  

In the era of fake news, kids need to learn to be able to tell what’s true from what’s false. And what better way to do that than a game show that puts kids in the driver’s seat, adults on the hot seat, and a sound-effects robot strapped to the roof?
